Uerovision 2008

Who is going to win the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest?  It looks like the former Russian countries are going to be fighting it out at the top of the table again. You can find out more here:

Personally, I like the Swedish entry and the Greek entry. But I doubt they will win. I think Serbia has a good shot and Russia too. One thing is for sure, Andy Abraham from the UK is not going to win. And he doesn’t deserve to. It’s a very boring song. I don’t know how it made it into the final of the 2088 Eurovision song contest.

American Country Music Awards 2008

The American Country Music Awards were decided last night. Strangely, Keith Urban didn’t pick up any awards at all. He was not very happy about that and complained that the award was decided by a phone poll (the first time ever this has happened). I’m not sure why it bothered him that the award was decided by fans. Perhaps he hated finding out that he doesn’t have as many fans as Kenny Chesney.

You can get a full rundown of the results of the American Country Music Awards here:

How to get rid of Crazy Rasberry Ants.

If you live in Houston, there’s a fair chance you are familiar with Crazy Rasberry Ants. They are a nightmare to deal with. They breed so fast that it’s almost impossible to kill them, try as you might. Apparently, even insecticide won’t stop them. The first wave on ants walks on the insectcide, then the next wave simply walks over them and survives.

They’re so hard to get rid of and they’re a real irritation.

There’s a really good article about them here:

Ford to Recall F-150

Ford have announced that they are recalling the F-150.

They are recalling the pickups due to a faulty power brake assist hose which has caused 11 accidents since the truck was released (although no serious injuries have been reported). According to the NHTSA report, the problem is caused by a faulty brake hose - it swells over time and results in the hose detaching from the intake manifold. Because of this problem, it is necessary to apply extra pressure to the brake pedal. At the moment, it is not possible to repair the problem as the parts necessary are not available. Obviously, Ford cannot allow these vehicles on the road, so have announced a recall.

The recall will take in more than 600,000 vehicles.

NASA Announce Supernova

14th May: After a search lasting 50 years, NASA scientists have announced that they have found the most recent supernova remnant in our galaxy.

By using x-rays and radio, they have found the supernova at a distance of around 26,000 light-years away from us.

The discovery is very exciting. Such and recent and powerful supernova will be able to tell us a great deal about how supernovae act, the forces involves, what happens in a supernova, and even how elements in our universe were created and supernovae’s role in creating the elements that we see all around us.

Via News Tornado

As it stands, the theory on supernovae does not match scientific observations. Theoretical scientists have predicted that there should be around three supernovas in our galaxy every 100 years. However, astronomers have to been able to locate anywhere near this amount. This latest discovery brings theory and observation closer and will help NASA find more supernovae in future.

The supernova was found by tracking the aftermath of the supernova. When a star goes supernova, it throws out a huge amount of debris. NASA astronomers were able to follow these tell tale signs to find the supernova itself.

Crush: Gina Carano

Gina Carano is best known for her role as Crush in American Gladiators. However, her latest challenge is an MMA (mixed martial arts) fight against Kaitlin Young. She has long been an MMA fighter and went into American Gladiators to expand her career and fund her MMA training.

Carano is optimistic about this fight but has not has the amount of time to train that she usually has. She usually like to have two months to get in full and fighting shape for each match. However, this one has come with only three weeks notice.

NASA Finds New Object

Today NASA will announce that they have found a new object in our solar system. One that they have been searching for over many years.

What is this object? At the moment, this is not clear. Is it a comet? Have NASA found a new moon? Maybe there’s another sun we didn’t know about.

What ever it is, it has long been a goal of astronomers to find it. They have been relentlessly searching for over 50 years and only now has their quest reached fruition.

If you want to know more about what this mystery object is, be sure that you check out NASA announcement on the subject later today. The press conference will reveal all about the new discovery and enlighten us all as to what this means for us and the future.
